Interior mural, corporate workplace, Cape Town, 2024
Riverside Symphony is a series of large-scale murals painted directly onto the tiled walls of a corporate office’s communal hub. Everything in it is drawn from the life found along the river near the business: weavers gathering reeds, oversized blooms and foliage, and a western leopard toad half-hidden among dark reeds. A living terrarium sits beside the toad and continues the theme in real plants.
The weavers sit at the centre of the composition. They are the same birds that drove my Woodstock piece, but here they are slowed down and brought indoors. The colours are drawn from the surrounding greenery, so the mural reads as part of the room’s planting rather than a
layer on top of it.
