With this work, I stepped away from my usual clean, vector-inspired lines and allowed myself to get lost in texture, tone and layered brushwork. Less control. More feeling. More grit. I wanted the feathers to feel lived in — weathered by wind, sun and speed.
As a kid, I didn’t grow up reading storybooks. I grew up on comics and wildlife books my mom used to bring home from the publishing company she worked at — Reader’s Digest. Those pages shaped how I saw the world. Bold illustrations. Dramatic close-ups. Animals that felt heroic and larger than life.
This is a Lanner Falcon — my second favourite raptor after the Peregrine. There’s something about falcons that’s always resonated with me. Precision. Focus. Speed. A quiet intensity.
